The LM2596 steps down input voltage (4–40V) to any adjustable output (1.25–35V) at up to 3A, with 92% efficiency. The onboard voltmeter display makes output voltage adjustment straightforward without needing a multimeter.
Powering 5V microcontrollers from 12V CCTV power supplies, converting 24V industrial supply to 3.3V sensor rails, building variable bench power supplies from laptop adapters, and reducing 12V battery to 5V for ESP32 field installations. Significantly more efficient than LM7805 linear regulators for high-current applications.
